A MOTORCYCLIST has been banned from the roads after being caught on camera performing a dangerous wheelie at 50mph.
Risking his life, as well as the lives of others, Christopher Gelpi recklessly sped down a busy dual carriageway while executing the crazy stunt on his customised Suzuki motorbike.
The 21-year-old, of Alum Way, Fareham, pleaded guilty at Fareham Magistrates’ Court yesterday to three counts of speeding and one count of careless driving.
The court said his actions were “extremely stupid”
considering that his job, with the Highways Agency incident support unit, which sweeps away debris from road accidents, shows him the devastating consequences crashes cause.
Gelpi was first caught speeding at 44mph in a 30mph zone on July 11 this year along Northern Parade in Portsmouth and then an hour later, travelling at the same speed along Anglesea Road.
Just 24 hours later he was snapped by the same fixed camera on Anglesea Road, performing the wheelie as he pulled away from the traffic at 50mph, almost twice the speed limit.
He was caught again racing down the same road on his blue Suzuki SV100 at 55mph on July 25.
He was disqualified from driving for 56 days for each count, to run concurrently, and fined £348.
Magistrate Dr Marian Read said: “What is particularly stupid about this is that your job brings you into contact with the consequences of road traffic crashes, so you know that drivers are not immortal.”
