A NEW Forest teenager has tragically died, despite a battle by doctors and paramedics to save him.

Jack Boothroyd, 15, who was born 11 weeks premature and suffered severe lung disease as a result, was taken ill on the village green at Milford.

The youngest of four children, he was collected by his parents after feeling unwell. His condition gradually got worse and despite intensive work by doctors and paramedics, they were unable to revive him and he died at his home.

As a reflection of his popularity, friends have promised the new facilities at the local community centre will be named the Booth Room in his honour. Jack was recognised for having a major flair for artistry and creation and some of his art will be exhibited on a wall there.

His mother, Belinda paid a huge tribute to the medical staff who tried to save him. "The ambulance crews were amazing, they made a huge effort - they did all they could. We've been overwhelmed by the support and kind messages from everyone. Jack clearly touched many lives."

She also paid tribute to her son's brave battle against ill-health. He never complained or moaned at all and avoided hospital at all costs. He just got on with things."

Youth leader Patsy Summers said: "The thing that struck me about Jack was his high moral standards. He was always there to fight everyone's corner and stick for anyone. He wasn't afraid of speaking up if he thought things weren't right. None of us will forget him."
