COASTGUARDS rescued the crew of a sinking yacht after it ran aground on the Hampshire coast and started taking on water.
Lymington Coastguard Rescue Team was called to help Shockwave, a 46ft racing yacht that was making its way to Southampton after competing in the Cork Week regatta in Ireland.
Water started to enter the boat after it hit a ledge in Hurst Race causing some keel bolts to sheer.
Backed up by the Lymington and Yarmouth lifeboats, the coastguard used a portable pump to drain the water from the hull of the yacht.
The yacht was then escorted to Lymington Yacht Haven, where it was lifted out of the water.
During the incident, which happened just after 2pm on Sunday, a 20-year-old female crew member injured her knee and was taken by ambulance to Lymington Hospital.
