CHILDREN at Freemantle CE Infant and Nursery School in Mansion Road, attended a special thanksgiving service at Christ Church, Southampton, to mark the school's 150th anniversary.
They then witnessed the re-dedication of the original school bell by the Bishop of Winchester.
Head teacher Kevin Barnett said: "It's unique to be involved in a school at its centenary, even more so for its 150 years because many schools don't last that long but the school and the church still work together very closely."
Freemantle was built with funds raised by local people who wanted a school before they built the nearby Christ Church.
Ex-pupils, staff and parents were invited to take part in the celebrations which was followed by a picnic on the school grounds.
A display including photographs, letters and other memorabilia was also on show.
Every child and visitor received a commemorative teddy bear to mark the occasion.
