TRAFFIC wardens have abandoned handing out tickets on parts of a Southampton estate because of fears they will be attacked.
Council patrol officers have been told to stop issuing parking fines on certain roads while the risk to their safety is assessed.
It comes after a string of assaults and verbal abuse of wardens slapping tickets on cars in and around Shirley Warren Council bosses say enforcement has returned to virtually all of the estate, and say they are determined to make sure legal action is taken against anyone who abuses their workers.
The roads currently still suspended are Sycamore Road and Chestnut Road.
Some officers have been subjected to verbal assaults, while others have been pelted with eggs and stones.
