WORK on improving access for disabled people at Romsey Railway Station is due to start today.
New car parking facilities are also part of the improvement scheme.
A disabled ramp is to be installed on Platform One. Currently disabled people cannot use the platform because there are no facilities for them.
The old stationmaster’s garden is to be turned into a car park and the area outside the frontage of the station entrance currently used for parking will be converted into a turning area for small buses and dropping off point for passengers. With the changes there will be a few extra car parking spaces at the station.
First Great Western (FGW) which manages Romsey Station is behind the improvements and the work to be undertaken by Strategic Team Group (STG) has to be done by next April to qualify for government funding.
