Casablanca, Brief Encounter, Love Story.

Few couples can hope to have their romance played out on the big screen like these iconic film classics.

However, a pair of Hampshire lovebirds enjoyed a magic movie moment when Aaron Smith, 31, popped the question to Lorna Cleary, 24, over the popcorn at Vue cinema, Eastleigh.

As the trailers started to roll staff at the Swan Centre venue switched to a DVD which had pictures from throughout the pair’s three-year relationship, their song and the all important proposal.

There was barely a dry eye in the house as Aaron dropped to one knee from his aisle seat and put the ring on his bride-to-be’s finger.

Aaron said: “I was so nervous, I’m still shaking but I feel better now. She is my best friend, she is very kind, very generous and very loving and I want to spend the rest of my life with her.

“I introduced her to films and our idea of a perfect night out is going to the cinema together so it seemed fitting.”

Aaron had arranged his proposal to coincide with a visit from her family, many of whom had come over from France.

He recruited cinema manager Fin Ferrol into his plot and told his girlfriend he had won 20 tickets in a competition.

The cinema put aside screen one for the very special showing and even printed him out a phoney pass to back up his tall story.

Lorna said: “I’m absolutely gobsmacked and amazed at what he has done for me. I can’t imagine anything better or more romantic, he’s so thoughtful. I can’t describe how it feels.”

The couple, who live in Wickham, met at work as Aaron is a police constable in Eastleigh and Lorna is a member of staff in Hampshire police’s Hamble control room.

The couple plan to marry in 2012.
