HAMPSHIRE-BORN actor Colin Firth heads to Hollywood tomorrow to see if he’s bagged an Academy Award for his role in The Kings Speech.

He’s widely tipped to win the Best Actor prize, following up on his BAFTA success earlier this month.

The film, which tells the story of King George VI overcoming his speech impediment, is also bookies’ favourite to win Best Film at the glitzy award ceremony.

Firth, famous for roles as Mr Darcy in Pride and Prejudice and Mark Darcy in Bridget Jones Diary went to school in Winchester and Eastleigh, will hope the film doesn’t stutter at the last hurdle – last year he narrowly missed out on an Oscar for his performance in A Single Man.

The 2011 Oscars, hosted by James Franco and Anne Hathoway, will be shown on Sky Movies Premiere from 1.30am to 5am on Monday morning.
