A WOMAN who says she owes Southampton General Hospital’s cardiac unit her life is hoping for a bumper turnout at her fundraiser for them over the Easter weekend.

Julia Rayner, 31, of Hedge End, has organised the free community event at the Shamblehurst Barn pub, in Hedge End, which runs until Easter Monday.

Fun fair activities include a colouring competition, Easter egg hunt and a name the bear competition.

Today, there will be a bouncy castle, face-painting, dancers and games while, over the weekend, there will be a quiz, auction and raffle.

Prizes include a signed Saints football, two tickets to a Saints match, two tickets to a cricket match at the Rose Bowl, a JCB experience and two tickets for anything being shown at Southampton Guildhall this year.

Money raised will go to the British Heart Foundation which will then go to the unit.

Julia, of Churchward Gardens, Hedge End, was born with Tetralogy of Fallot, a congenital heart defect which means she has a large hole in the middle of her heart, surrounded by tiny holes, a blockage, a leaky valve and a split between the passages of the heart.

She is backing the Daily Echo’s Have a Heart Appeal to save the children’s cardiac unit, where she was treated as a child.
