LEAGUE officials investigating the mystery of the missing result card focused their enquires on a plumber’s van.

Following a tip off, chief sleuth Andy Brooke interrogated John Barton, captain of Eastleigh Railway Institute C.

Barton agreed to search his van and discovered the result card detailing an 8-2 away win for Woolston Conservative Club A. It was duly posted.

Contrary to rumours, it did not have a phone number on the back and a quote for six grand.

Terry Azor - captain of champions Chandlers Ford Central A, who had pipped Woolston to the title by one frame - was naturally delighted. Eventually.

He said: “Everyone, including my reserves, have played exceptionally well.

“Satpal Hans was like an unsung hero in the first part of the season. Satpal was outstanding, the break-building he was putting together to win his frames. It was a treat to watch.

“We gelled together so well and it shows when we go on the table.

“In the spell before Christmas where we beat Churchills A and then Woolston heavily, we were beating everyone heavily.

“The lads were playing so well that it was a joy to play with them and skipper them. The lads were on such a roll, I hadn’t seen it for such a long time. Every Monday we were going out and playing the best snooker.”

And the ageless Azor revealed that practice partner Wayne Muddiman has vowed to knock in a century – sometime.

Azor said: “He has promised me he’s going to make a hundred break – but we don’t know when. But I’m looking forward to it.

“He’s promised me he’ll get his old form back and I’ll see a hundred break out of him in the near...well, in the future.”
