POLICE are investigating the stabbing of a man in a Southampton park.

As reported yesterday, a 53-year-old local man was attacked in Park Walk, near the entrance to East Park, yesterday at about 2.20pm.

He was walking through East Park when he got involved in a row with another man, who stabbed him in the back.

The victim was taken to Southampton General Hospital with serious but nonlife- threatening injuries.

Police have not yet established what the weapon was and are appealing for witnesses, as there were many people in the area at the time.

Officers taped off a part of the park, including the Floral Walk and Park Walk, to allow a forensic examination of the scene.

The attacker is white, about 25 to 30, 5ft 11in to 6ft, of medium to heavy build, about 14 to 16 stone, with a ginger beard.

He was wearing a dark tracksuit top and bottoms and a black woolly hat or cap. He ran off through East Park towards New Road.

Anyone with information should call Shirley CID on 101 or the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
