A FORMER Southampton nightclub and bar has been put up for sale after plans to reopen as 1,400-capacity superclub were rejected.
The New Yorks nightclub and McCluskys bar in Queensway, Southampton, ceased trading six years ago when councillors refused to renew the licences due to a lack of a plan to address crime fears.
A bid by national club operator Nexum Leisure to spend £1.6m to reopen two notorious nightspots as a new club called Escapade was thrown out two years ago after a objections from the city’s top cop and 150 nearby residents.
The freehold in the property, owned by the council and a long lease owned by Nexum, are now up for sale through property agents Savills who said there had already been “good interest” in it.
The site has been identified as a major mixed-use re-development opportunity.
