THE mother of missing teenager Damien Nettles has welcomed the arrest of five men suspected of his killing.
Damien, 16, failed to return home after spending the evening at a party on the Isle of Wight with friends nearly 15 years ago.
His mysterious disappearance has baffled police but they swooped early on Tuesday morning to arrest a 44-year-old from Cowes, a 48-year-old from Sandown, a 37-year-old from Ryde, a 50-year-old from Newport, and a 39-year-old from Gravesend, Kent. They were bailed last night after questioning.
Speaking to the Daily Echo, Valerie Nettles, who now lives in Texas, USA said she was “cautiously optimistic” about the new development in the hunt for Damien.
She said: “I’m happy that there are fresh eyes looking at this and that [the police] are doing what they’re doing, and hopefully one of those people will be able to put an end to this.
“We just need to know what happened to Damien.”
