A MAN this morning denied murdering a Hampshire grandmother by bludgeoning her to death with a rolling pin.

Georgina Edmonds, 77, suffered multiple wounds inflicted by the weapon as well as a knife and was found dead on the kitchen floor of her Brambridge cottage.

Her body was discovered by her son Harry on January 11, 2008.

Matthew Hamlen, 32, of Hamilton Road, Bishopstoke, today appeared at Winchester Crown Court dressed in a tracksuit where he entered a not guilty plea.

The court heard he was arrested in June last year.

An application for bail was refused by Judge Guy Boney.

The case has now been listed for a six-week trial starting on November 14.
