It has been dubbed the “not so crazy” golf course.

The new 18-hole attraction in Southampton’s East Park opens today, without a windmill or a lighthouse in sight.

Instead of the usual variety of wacky objects, players will be able to test their putting skills on grass greens, with synthetic sand bunkers and natural rocks providing the only obstacles.

But councillors say that the £55,000 “mini-golf” project will prove a popular activity for people across the city.

Councillor Phil Williams, Cabinet member for parks, said: “Originally we forecast it could raise £15,000 a year, but it could raise even more in the long term.

“I personally think it will be really popular and I’m thrilled that it’s up and running in time for the summer.”

The 18-hole mini-golf course opens from 2:30pm, with rounds costing £2 per adult and £1.50 for under
