A MAN who repeatedly yelled that he had a bomb in his shoe at Southampton railway station has been ordered to do 150 hours’ unpaid work.

Christopher Albon, 35, told rail staff he was going to detonate the bomb when he arrived the city’s central station on a train from London, a court heard.

Standing near the exit of platform 4, Albon repeatedly shouted: “I’ve got a bomb in my shoe and I’m going to detonate it,” despite station staff asking him several times to stop.

Police were called as staff and members of the public became increasingly concerned about Albon’s threats.

Recorder Simon Foster sentenced him to 150 hours’ unpaid work under a 12- month community order.

He said: “You probably frightened quite a lot of people by shouting what you did.”

The incident happened at about 8.15pm on May 3 last year, just days after police in New York were put on terror alert after finding a car near Times Square stuffed with explosive materials.
