TRIBUTES have been paid to a “fantastic father” who died in an industrial accident at Fawley refinery.
Tony McGowan was working as a rigger at the huge petro-chemical complex when he became trapped under pipes, suffering severe chest and pelvic injuries.
Mr McGowan, 57, of Ebbw Vale, southeast Wales, died shortly after being taken to S o u t h a m p t o n General Hospital.
As reported in the Daily Echo, an investigation led by the Health and Safety Executive has been launched into the accident.
Last night Chris McGowan, one of the victim’s two sons, said: “My brother and I are deeply saddened at the tragic and untimely death of our dad.
He was a truly fantastic father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him.
“We have been overwhelmed with the support and messages of condolence we have received from people all over the UK.”
Mr McGowan said his father had been a rigger for more than 20 years and had worked all over the world
