A TEENAGER told a court how his mum talked about making a poisonous meal for his grandfather hours before they allegedly attacked him outside his home in a bid to kill him.

Jurors at Winchester Crown Court heard the 19-year-old describe how he had seen his mother researching poisonous toadstools on a computer and she had talked about putting them in a shepherd’s pie for the 89-year-old man.

But the teenager, who is accused along with his family of conspiring to kill the pensioner, denied he knew his mother was “planning murder”.

Giving evidence in his defence, the man was cross-examined by Nigel Pascoe QC who accused him of “going along” with the violence she was plotting.

The teenager replied: “She was looking at websites, yes, but I didn’t know she was planning to do it.”

The grandson of the elderly man, who ended up in hospital after being attacked outside his home in a village near Winchester on the evening of November 15 last year, then told jurors how he had delivered one single punch.

He told the court that he had hit his grandfather as he walked outside his bungalow to give himself time to run inside his home and steal his pension.

A 49-year-old woman, her daughters aged 14 and 16, her son aged 19 and a 16-year-old girlfriend – all from Eastleigh – deny conspiring to murder, and a separate charge of grievous bodily harm with intent.

None of the defendants can be identified for legal reasons.
