SOCIAL workers are to strike next week in an escalation of the bitter dispute between city council staff and leaders over pay cuts.
More than 450 members of children's and adult services will walk out next Wednesday, including social workers, care managers, family centre workers, occupational therapists and assistants, contact supervisors and administration staff.
Unions have warned the social workers - some of whom have been offered £1,400 bonuses by the council as an incentive not to quit over the cuts - are also planning longer action from next Thursday.
Traffic wardens, street cleaners and Itchen Bridge toll collectors are amongst those currently in the middle of a week-long strike, as part of the long-running battle with chiefs at Southampton City Council.
