WORKMEN found human bones while doing drainage work in Market Street, Winchester.
A county council spokeswoman said that the bones would be fully analysed and recorded.
Archaeologists believe that the bones had already been disturbed when the original sewer was installed.
The bones are thought to be from graves associated with the nearby cathedral.
Market Street, which is close to The Square, is in the heart of the Roman and medieval city.
