A WOMAN was killed when a van crashed into a tree and overturned near Winchester.
The 58-year-old, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene of the single-vehicle crash on the A272, north of the Three Maids Hill junction.
A 59-year-old man, who was driving the van, was taken to Southampton General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Ford Transit was heading south towards Littleton when it crashed at about 5.30pm on Thursday. The police are appealing for witnesses.
A spokesman for the Central Hampshire coroner said that a post-mortem examination was scheduled for yesterday afternoon. An inquest is likely to be opened next week.
Witnesses are asked to call PC Mark Furse at Whitchurch police station, quoting Operation Bloxham, on 101.
