A MAN has been killed after being hit by a train in Hampshire.
Emergency services were called to Swaythling railway station just before 9am today.
Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene and an investigation began into the cause of the accident.
According to British Transport Police initial enquiries officers are treating the death as non suspicious.
A spokesman said: "Officers are now working to establish the identity of the man, and will then inform his next of kin.
"A file will be prepared for the coroner".
The train involved was the 6.03am Birmingham New Street to Bournemouth service that was coming through the station at 8.48am when the accident happened.
As a result there was significant disruption with delays of up to an hour on South West Train services between Winchester and Southampton Central.
Normal service was expected to resume by 11am.
Cross Country services are also affected.
