SO IT’S 1-0 to me in the great Tesco sugar hunt.

We know why they do. Sugar is an essential. Shoppers must find it – however cleverly it’s hidden.

But, really, in Foil and Clingfilm/Seasonal!

What sort of twisted mind comes up with that cunning stunt in the morning meeting?

“Where shall we hide the sugar today, boss?”

“Hmmm...how about in Foil and Clingfilm/Seasonal?

"No one will think of looking there unless they’re buying a Christmas cake or needing to wrap up the remaining piece of last year’s Christmas cake.”

Cue for much hilarity among team leaders.

Tesco do much to make our shopping trip easy. Everything is clearly signed (except sugar) and logical. Frozen stuff is near the exit. Chocolate and biscuits are adjacent. And crisps and nuts are near the beer.

So why wind us up?

Blokes going shopping do not ask where something is. God forbid.

We have to trawl up and down the middle of the store hoping to see a pallet sticking out of some obscure aisle.

If that doesn’t work, we start at one end and go up and down every aisle. And that’s how I ended up in Foil and Clingfilm/Seasonal.

We work to a list. If it’s on the list, we must find it.

Blokes will not go up and down every aisle searching for sugar and picking up items that catch their eye if they are not on the list.

If it isn’t on the list, it isn’t going in the basket – however desperately we need it.
