POLICE are hunting an attacker who stabbed a man in a Southampton street.

The 30-year-old victim, from Eastleigh, is said to be recovering well after being wounded in his upper right thigh.

Police described his condition as “stable” following the attack, which happened in Gordon Avenue, Portswood.

He was taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment, and underwent surgery following the stabbing.

Officers are focusing on identifying his attacker and are still trying to find the weapon used.

Police sealed off a 200-yard stretch of the residential street for several hours.

The attacker, who left the scene on a dark mountain bike, is described as Asian, in his mid-20s, 5ft 8in, with short dark hair.

Police said officers believe that the incident, at around 6pm on Friday, was the result of a dispute between two men who had arranged to meet up with each other.
