A GROUP of amateur sailors took to the water as part of their annual raft race in Southampton.
Members of the St Denys Association braved the cold waters of the River Itchen to take part in the race to raise money for its children's Christmas party and community hall.
Martin Gentry, of the Association, said: "It's an annual raft race that we resurrected last year. It used to take place quite often before but for whatever reason it whittled away.
"As part of the community of St Denys we have decided to bring it back and raise some money at the same time. We had six boats taking part this year and we hope a lot more take part next year."
Spectators looking over Cobden Bridge pelt the racing rafts with eggs, flour and water bombs to give the race an element of fun.
Mr Gentry added: "The spectators have the best fun as they are up on the bridge armed and dangerous with eggs, waterbombs and whatever else they can find to throw at the boats."
