A SPOON taken from the sinking Titanic by a porter has been sold for £650.

Twenty-one-year-old Reginald Hardwick took the spoon as he fled the ship and clambered into a lifeboat that was later rescued by the liner Carpathia.

The spoon was handed down through generations of the Hardwick family after Reginald was killed in the First World War in 1918, six years after Titanic sank, having left Southampton port on its fateful voyage.

An auction held on the online site eBay attracted 40 bids for the spoon.
