THIRTEEN Hampshire schools have already signed up to take to the stage and take part in next year's Rock Challenge.

All teams must create an eight-minute dance routine or drama performance based on their chosen theme set to contemporary music.

Organisers hope the event will also educate youngsters about the dangers of drug misuse and give them the chance to experience a drug free high on stage.

Teenagers taking part in the performing arts competition at Southampton Guildhall must plan their own choreography, set design, lighting, costumes, hair and make-up.

Southampton schools that have already started preparing for the five day spectacular from March 12 until March 17 include St Anne's Catholic School, Chamberlayne Park School, Regents Park Community College and Cantell School.

Across Hampshire, Mountbatten School in Romsey, and Kings School in Winchester, are taking part.

The Rock Challenge is organised by the Be Your Best Foundation charity which promotes young people's education, health and citizenship.

Other teams that want to take part, or businesses interested in sponsoring the event, should log onto www.rockchallenge.co.uk or call 023 8061 7729.
