A HAMPSHIRE telecommunications consultant has been recognised for his tireless voluntary work with the homeless by being presented with a national award.
Steve Dent, who works as a full-time BT technical consultant, also dedicates 20 hours a month to Friends of the Homeless - a hostel facility which provides help to local homeless people in Fareham and Gosport.
His behind-the-scenes work gained lofty recognition when he collected an acclaimed BT Chairman's Award at a ceremony held on the 34th floor of BT Tower in London.
BT chairman and head of the judging panel Sir Christopher Bland shortlisted Friends of the Homeless ahead of the hundreds of entries the scheme received this year.
As runner-up in the community category, as well as an award for Steve's mantelpiece, the group will receive a cheque for £1,000.
