The Dalian Players have been performing at their fully staged theatre in the Methodist Church Hall, Manor Road North, Woolston, Southampton, which sits approximately 800 people, since 1952.

Last time the players took to the stage they brought us the wonderful comedy No Time For Fig Leaves, but as they return on October 5-7 with a far more dramatic and political show.

The Militants, produced by Terry Gates, follows the activities of a group of suffragettes fighting for their political voice in Metringham.

Set over a period of three days, almost 100 years ago in 1908, the play takes a look at what happens when the suffragettes, while struggling to get the vote, manage to turn the tables on the local police and politicians.

Most of the action in this fictional portrayal, of what could have been reality, takes place in the mayor elects house where two leading members of the Dalian Players, Michael Tosdevin and Eileen Spratt, assume the roles of the alderman and his wife.

The atmosphere is tense as you sit back and watch the dramatic events rapidly unfurl.

Will the militant suffragettes win their struggle against law and order?

You'll have to go along and watch to find out!
