A SIX-STORY landmark could be built at the end of St Mary Street in Southampton if the project is given the green light by city planning bosses next Tuesday.

The project would see a former petrol station and current six-storey building knocked down and replaced with ground floor shops and 36 flats if the scheme is approved by members of the city council's planning and rights of way committee.

Two letters broadly in support of the scheme have been received by city planning officers.

However, the letters state that the proposed building should be reduced in height by one floor and that the proposed colour scheme should be changed.

The project is recommended for approval by council planning officers.
