PIRATES are definitely big news this year.

This summer saw the release of the second Pirates of the Caribbean blockbuster at cinemas, Southampton Boat Show had a pirate theme and even fashion has been influenced by the baddies of the oceans.

And you can continue to get your fix of all things piratical at Chichester Festival Theatre on November with The Pirates of Penzance.

Internationally renowned opera company Carl Rosa returns to the theatre with its acclaimed production of Gilbert and Sullivan's hugely popular show from November 6-11.

With West End star Rosemary Ashe, who played Carlotta in The Phantom of the Opera, in the role of Ruth, this revived production features stunning period costumes and new stage designs.

Written in 1879, The Pirates of Penzance is one of Gilbert and Sullivan's greatest comic operettas.

With magnificent send-ups of grand opera, it presents a topsy-turvy plot involving a band of orphaned pirates, a major general who doesn't know his rifles from his javelins, a bevy of blushing maidens and the dashing Frederic.

The show is ever popular and is packed with familiar songs including I am the Very Model of a Model Major General and A Policeman's Lot is not a Happy One.

Tickets: from £10. Box office: 01243 781312.
