BILLED as Britain’s biggest water and beach sports festival, it has become one of the premier events on the south coast.

Every year the three-day Windfest event attracts 250 athletes from all over the world.

First held in 1998 Windfest has expanded over the years and now features more than 15 activities.

The festival has always been held at Sandbanks, the glamorous enclave that is home to former Saints boss Harry Redknapp and other celebrities.

Now Windfest is leaving Dorset and moving to Pylewell Park, a huge Hamp-shire estate that borders the Solent.

The decision is set to give the local economy a major boost, with the nearby sailing mecca of Lymington poised to benefit from a large influx of visitors.

A Windfest spokesman said: “Pylewell Park has 1,500 acres of land, an 18th century house, a private beach and lakes.

“It caters for every action sport Windfest is renowned for and also allows for new features including mountain bike trails, yoga and kite-boarding.”

Windfest’s website says: “The stunning house, one of England’s hidden gems, is possibly the most awesome backdrop of any festival in the UK.”

As well as a new venue Windfest is also being given a new venue – Windfest Re-Tuned.

The spokesman said the event aimed to cater for families and sports enthusiasts alike, with attractions including music, comedy and children’s entertainment.

Windfest attracts about 10,000 spectators every year.

The event now needs more land and camping facilities, although annual running costs of £100,000 have also played a part in the decision to move it from Poole to Pylewell.

Organiser Gary Willingham said: “Windfest has grown enormously since 1998 and it’s exciting to be working on Windfest Re-Tuned.

“Pylewell is a stunning location that provides us with everything we need to allow the event to grow.”

Windfest is on from September 14-16. Get tickets at windfest.co.uk.
