HE has spent more than four decades serving up Great British breakfasts and roasts with a Greek twist.

George Mavrikios opened up George’s Cafe, in Church Street, Shirley, Southampton, after moving from Larnaca in Cyprus.

But the 66-year-old has hung up his apron to spend more time with his four grandchildren in England as well as visiting his brothers and sisters in the sunny Mediterranean island.

George said: “I will miss my cooking but it will be the customers that I miss the most.”

The neighbourhood eatery will stay as George’s Cafe under new management – his daughter in law Mary Mavrikios.

George came to England as part of a wave of migrants from the island following its independence from Britain, working in the kitchens in the city before setting up the family-run cafe in 1970 as he raised four children Maria, Timothy, Chris and Soula with his wife Helen.
