THERE was some fishy business going on a Hampshire school recently.
Youngsters at Droxford Junior School designed, hammered and decorated metal fish as part of a project to promote art and theatre in rural communities.
Children at the school worked with artist Elizabeth Holdsworth, who specialises in metalwork, as well as local residents in the village. Their creations were then made into three sculptures.
Head teacher Ross Irving said: βIt was a wonderful opportunity for our children to collaborate with residents from the village as well as a talented artist such as Elizabeth. They have all worked together to produce stunning sculptures and should feel very proud of themselves. Not only have the children gained valuable experience collaborating with members of our local community and established artists but they have also developed their artistic and design technology skills.β Funding for the project came from Friends of Droxford (FODS) and Hampshire County Councilβs rural touring arts scheme Hog the Limelight.
