The man accused of abducting, raping and killing Hannah Foster has described the dramatic moment when police swooped to arrest him.

He told the court how he feared for his life because of large rewards offered for information about his whereabouts.

Earlier he had read in a newspaper that he was being sought as a suspect.

He said he was at his sister in law's house when he decided to call a policeman who he trusted in order to "surrender himself" but when they didn't arrive, he decided to "go on the run", the court was told.

"I still remember it was 11 o clock and no-one came until 40 minutes which makes me suspicious and scared that they may try and kill me because of the money involved,"

"That was my thinking. Then I made my mind because I was suspicious. I made my mind again to go on the run to save myself.

"I came out of the house of sister-in-law, reach the main street of the village and standing outside the shop. The bus was coming to us. I waved it to stop and as soon as the bus stopped all the people were in civil dress.

"They were police and they jumped on me. The put guns on every side of me."

When asked by the defence barrister Abbas Lakha QC "did you abduct, rape and murder Hannah Foster?" Kohli said "no, not at all."

Malinder Pal Singh Kohli, 41, denies the abduction, false imprisonment, rape and murder of 17-year-old Hannah.
