A HAMPSHIRE school has been helping collect toys for a Southampton charity.

Twyford School, an independent day and boarding school in the village of Twyford near Winchester is for children aged three to thirteen.

The pre-preparatory part of the school collected a large number of donated new toys and these were handed over to the Children’s Hospital at Southampton General Hospital.

Twyford Pre-Prep is for children aged three to seven and they welcomed Judith Stephens, Events and Community Fundraiser for Southampton Hospital Charity on March 13 to handover the toys.

The collection started before Christmas to support the ward which has been looking after one of the pre-prep children from the school. Toys have to be frequently replaced because of the risk of germs and infection. They are used in all areas of the hospital not only to entertain the children, but also to help in their care and rehabilitation.

The Year Two children helped deliver the toys to the car and there were and according to the school ‘so many that Judith’s car was full to bursting as she drove away’.

The Pre-Prep school council also held a used toy sale to raise some additional funds and a cheque for £268.45 was presented to Ms Stephens for the Children’s Neurological Ward.
