A DRIVER fled police then collided with another car, “causing nearby homes to shake”, according to police and witnesses.

At around 2.45pm yesterday, a green Ford Focus and a red Ford Fiesta were involved in a crash on Warburton Road, Thornhill, near Dumbleton Rowers.

A police officer had initially tried to stop the male driver of the Ford Focus on nearby Bursledon Road, 15 minutes before the accident.

But he failed to stop and drove away.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: “A short time later the car was located in Warburton Road having been involved in a collision with a Ford Fiesta.

“A woman in the Ford Fiesta suffered a minor injury and was taken to Southampton General Hospital.

“A 28-year-old man from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop. He remains in custody at this time. Investigations are ongoing.”

Onlookers spoke of the drama which unfolded, with one saying the impact of the collision “caused nearby homes to shake”.
