EASTLEIGH residents have the opportunity to bask in the sun while watching all their favourite movies on the "big screen".

Movie fanatics can pull up a deck chair and enjoy a line-up of blockbuster and classic film screenings on the theatre’s outdoor garden stage.

Members of the public are invited to grab a drink and some popcorn from the pop-up bar at The Point.

The programme is part of the Eastleigh theatre's Summer Social event and will run every Saturday evening until August 3.

With entertainment for people of all ages, films on offer include Steven Spielberg's blockbuster, ET – The Extra-Terrestrial which will be showing on July 13.

Abba fans will be able to sing along to the musical romantic comedy Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again on July 27.

From the imagination of Steven Spielberg, The Goonies plunges a band of misfit children into a swashbuckling quest to save their neighbourhood from greedy property developers by finding a lost pirate treasure map.

A cult classic from start to finish it will be showing on July 20.

To top off the summer of outdoor entertainment, fantasy and sci-fi lovers will be treated to a showing of Captain Marvel on August 3.

With refreshments on offer at the bar from 6pm onwards screenings will begin every Saturday at 9pm.

The Point's Summer Social event offers six weeks of "fun" outdoor events, including live music, family activities and wellbeing yoga.

Other events on the programme include Eastleigh Unwrapped which saw thousands of revellers flock to the town centre for the return of the annual festival in June.

Celebrating its seventh year anniversary the event featured a programme of circus, aerial, family theatre and dance.

Cabinet member for economy at Eastleigh Borough Council, which operates The Point, Cllr Derek Pretty said: "The Summer Social event is growing in popularity each year and its diverse range of entertainment and activities are attracting more people into the town centre and boosting our evening economy in particular.”

This the Dulux Decorator Centre is sponsoring the outdoor cinema event. Store Manager, John Baker said: “Bringing the people of Eastleigh together in this way is something we are only too pleased to support and with films for everyone we’re looking forward to meeting families, friends and groups throughout the summer. It’s a fantastic community event."
