A SOUTHAMPTON post office is set to move locations to a modern open-plan branch with increased opening hours.

Portswood Post Office will move to its new premises just 148 metres down the road at 40-41 Addis Square in Portswood Road on June 26, with the current branch set to close on June 25.

It is part of a three-year investment programme that will see 6,000 post offices nationwide converting to modern branches.

Originally the move was due to take place in March, but it didn’t happen because the lease needed to be finalised. As part of the move the opening hours will be extended by 10.5 hours a week and will open from 8.30am to 6pm Monday to Saturday.

The new Portswood Post Office will now have four serving positions, with one screened counter and two open planned counters and a Post Office serving point.
