A TUG of War competition roped in fitness fanatics to help in the fight against cancer.
The second annual Tugsticular – a contest for male and females – had the twin aims of raising money for Tenovus and promoting awareness of testicular cancer.
The event held at Southampton University’s sports fields at Wide Lane, Eastleigh on Saturday attracted 14 teams of eight, mostly from local gyms plus one from Totton Rugby Club and was refereed by members of the Tug of War Association.
The men’s and women’s competitions were each contested by seven teams who all pulled against each other in round-robin to find the best four who went forward to the semi-finals.
Dom's Divas, from the Pure Gym in Bitterne, were the women’s winners and the men’s contest was won by Spartans Gym from Northam. Both teams were coached by Stacey Claffey, part-owner of Spartans.
The event, organised by Norma Waite and Dale Jackman, was watched by more than 100 spectators and raised more than £1,500 for Tenovus Cancer Care.
