A number of schools across Southampton are set to close as teachers go on strike on Wednesday.

Members of the National Education Union (NEU) voted in favour of industrial action in a row over pay, workloads and funding cuts.

A union representative said 900 members are expected to walk out in Southampton on February 1 - the first of a series of national walkouts.

In the past week, schools have been confirming how they are planning to deal with the impact of the strike.

While some said they won't be able to confirm until the day itself, a number of headteachers have told parents their schools will remain closed due to the high number of staff expected to take part in the strike.

Below are the school closures confirmed to the Echo so far:

  • Regents Park Community College
  • Redbridge Primary School
  • Ludlow Junior School
  • Moorlands Primary
  • Hollybrook schools - (open to vulnerable children and children with an an education, health and care plan)
  • Weston Secondary School (open to children with an an education, health and care plan and children with a social worker)

The Echo has asked Southampton City Council for full list but is yet to receive a response.
