MORE than six hundred potential volunteers turned out to a community fair.

The event at Eastleigh's The Point was the first for One Community - a charity which helps voluntary organisations in Eastleigh and Fareham.

Showcasing the talents of local music groups as diverse as opera and Indian dancing, the event included dozens of stalls from local organisations hoping to get more members to sign up or volunteers to help out.

Speaking on behalf of the organisers Julia Allen said: "We are really pleased. This is the first one in Eastleigh although we have done them in Fareham before.

"I think we will be doing it again. People have said they didn't know there was so much going on - so that's the big plus for us, that we could show everyone all the activities."

One Community is celebrating its 40th year this year and to mark the anniversary will be organising one event a month all year. They are already putting together a list of 40 challenges for people to try to do.
