MORE than 970 cases of the Delta variant have been recorded across Hampshire. 

Data released on the Government website has shown that, as of June 18, there were 974 cases of the Delta variant recorded across the county. 

A total of 182 cases were recorded in Southampton.

As well as this, University Hospital Southampton Trust was caring for three coronavirus patients in hospital as of Tuesday, figures show.

NHS England data shows the number of people being treated in hospital for Covid-19 by 8am on June 15 was down from 25 on the same day the previous week.

The number of beds at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust occupied by people who tested positive for Covid-19 decreased by 77 per cent in the last four weeks – 28 days ago, there were 13.

The Delta variant first identified in India now comprises 91 per cent of cases of coronavirus in the UK, the Health Secretary has said.
