Bartosz Bialkowski is hoping to celebrate a new four year deal by winning back his place in the Saints team.

The 19-year-old keeper has declared himself fit and ready for action whenever required after recovering from cruciate ligament reconstruction following his injury at Newcastle in the FA Cup earlier this year.

Bialkowski, who made such an impact in his seven appearances before suffering the injury, has been handed a new four year contract.

The Polish youngster is ready for the challenge that lays ahead - trying to win back his place from Kelvin Davis.

He said: "I signed a new contract, a four year deal, and I am very happy because Southampton is a fantastic club for me and I hope I can help the squad to promotion.

"I know now Kelvin Davis is the number one keeper and he's a very good and experienced keeper.

"I work very hard every training and I hope the gaffer sees this. Hopefully I will get back to the first team soon.

"Maybe I won't get in the team but I hope maybe in the next match I can be on the bench.

"I am fit - in training there is no problem with my knee. I am ready anytime.

"I am training every day and I am waiting for my chance."

Bialkowski was keen to commit himself to the club having settled in the area with his fiance.

He says one of the major factors in deciding to stay at St Mary's long term has been seeing other senior pros make the same commitment.

"It wasn't a difficult decision for me," he explained.

"I am very happy for this contract.

"I wanted to sign a long-term contract because Grzegorz Rasiak and Rudi Skacel have also signed four-year deals and we are together."
