SOME of the biggest names in European golf could be competing at Meon Valley Hotel & Country Club if ongoing negotiations prove fruitful.

Owners Marriott International have given the green light to a £5m-plus investment programme at the club, which will include the provision of of two championship class 18s - as well as refurbishment of the hotel's bedrooms and upgrading and repositioning of the restaurants.

What's more, negotiations are under way with the aim of bringing a top-class tour event to the facility - men's or seniors European Tour.

"We are already working with tour people and are keen to host a big event," said general manager Steve Grant.

He explained: "There is real interest from both parties and we plan to have two tour-standard courses in place to allow the top players to showcase their skills at Meon Valley."
