1954: Saints 0 Walsall 0 1956: Coventry 2 Saints 0 Coventry scored within the opening 60 seconds as Saints slumped to a disappointing defeat at Highfield Road.

1962: Saints 4 Leeds 1 Saints recorded a stunning victory over Leeds at the Dell.

Kck off was delayed by 15 minutes to allow Leeds to fly their fourth choice keeper, 16-year-old Gary Sprake, down from Manchester as Tommy Younger fell ill on the morning of the game.

It wasn’t a good afternoon for the youngster, though, as Saints scored through Tommy Mulgrew (2), Derek Reeves and an own goal to move up to fourth.

1990: Wimbledon 3 Saints 3 Matt Le Tissier claimed his second hat-trick in four games as he earned ten-man Saints a point.

Le Tissier netted his first on 19 minutes to give Saints the lead.

Wimbledon were then kicked into life and found themselves 3-1 up thanks to goals from Eric Young, John Scales and John Fashanu.

Francis Benali was then sent off on 59 minutes, but Le Tissier scored twice in the next eight minutes to complete a stunning triple in front of a crowd of only 5,382.

2001: Saints 1 Everton 0 Jo Tessem scored the only goal in the 58th minute in what turned out to be Glenn Hoddle’s final game in charge before quitting to take over at Tottenham.

2012: Millwall 2 Saints 3 A Rickie Lambert hat-trick, including penalties in the 85th and 88th minutes, helped keep Saints on track for promotion to the Premier League.

It was Lambert’s fourth Championship hat-trick of the season and stretched the club’s unbeaten league run to nine games.
