Former world champion Les Wallace was in fine form in the Freemantle, Shirley & District this week.
Wallace, winner of the BDO World Championships in 1997, won the mixed pairs with playing partner Linda Munden – they were representing The Saints and defeated Paul Boyce and Val Emm of Bitterne RBL in the final. The competition attracted 33 pairings to The Saints venue.
Wallace then went on to claim the singles title – beating Osborne’s Colin Philpott 4-0 in the final after chalking up the same scoreline over Saints player Kim Osborn at the last four stage. Philpott beat Kev Woodward (Osborne) in the semis.
Four maximums and a 137 finish came from talented Wallace during the evening.
Woodward was more successful in the men’s pairs – picking up the title with his Osborne partner Micky Noyce after they got the better of Paul Boyce and Cliff Mould of Bitterne RBL.
