Saints legend Matt Le Tissier may have hung up his football boots long ago, but he is now lacing up a pair of running shoes.
Le Tissier and his wife, Angela, are taking part in this month’s Guernsey Half Marathon and are raising money for two charities – Honeypot and Help a Guernsey Child.
The more mischievous of observers may have already informed Le Tissier that running was never his strong point, but the 44-year-old admits he has taken some enjoyment from the training.
“Strangely enough, it has been quite enjoyable,” he said. “It’s been nice losing some weight. I’ve lost about two-and-a-half stone since New Year.
“That’s been the main benefit. It’s nice to be able to fit into my clothes again!”
The Honeypot Children’s Charity works to enhance the lives of vulnerable children and young carers, aged five to 12, by providing respite breaks and other support.
Help a Guernsey Child aims to help disadvantaged children, as well as young people and youth organisations, on Le Tissier’s home island.
The race takes place on June 16. You can sponsor Matt and Angela by visiting their JustGiving page at justgiving.com/Matt-Angela-le-Tissier
