Saints have reportedly received an approach from Swansea for midfielder Jack Cork.
The Swans, who travel to St Mary’s on Sunday, have long since held an interest in Cork, and indications in Wales suggest they have moved to try and to strengthen their squad before the close of the transfer window.
Neither Saints nor Swansea have officially confirmed or denied the reports.
Cork’s current contract is due to expire in the summer. He has been offered a new deal by Saints and has been set a deadline of this week to decide on whether to sign it.
There has been no news out of St Mary’s on the topic, suggesting that he is weighing up his options.
If he opts not to sign then Saints will need to decide whether to cash him on this month or keep him in the squad for the remainder of the season and watch him walk away for nothing in the summer.
If they do decide to sell before the window closes on Monday it may mean they dip into the transfer market again.
Saints have had an interest in Serbian midfielder Filip Djuricic, but as it stands that deal is unlikely to be done.
