Portsmouth Destroyers - you're 'aving a laugh!

Southampton's American football team, the Stags, showed all the destructive power when they met their rivals from along the coast.

Reigning national champions Stags are undefeated run and look to head into the playoffs in three weeks as the top seeds in the south while Portsmouth are a first-year team.

And it showed!

The game was a no contest. Stags' offence racked up 79 points and 277 yards and the starting offence scored on every possession with the second string only giving the ball away three times.

The defence controlled the Destroyers offence all day, recovered seven fumbles and Dom Olney made two interceptions.

A strong crosswind gave Stags more problems than the Destroyers. It provided less than ideal conditions for a passing game and meant the load would more likely fall to the running backs.

Running back Tam Amachree scored five touchdowns and quarter-back Michal Katnik two. Ben Webb slotted a field goal in the second quarter to contribute to his 21 points and rookie running back Chevy Green also blasted over.

Paul Wiesbauer made ten tackles and there was an excellent LB debut from converted corner Iain Anderson, who recovered two fumbles and came second in team tackles.
